Yikes!

Slam! Slam! That is the sound of my kids slamming doors...something that Mommy does not like at all. Well, one of my worst fears is that one of the kids will slam the door with a finger in the hinge. This fear became a reality yesterday. Gabe shut the door on Addie's pinkie finger and severed her pinkie finger tip. The finger tip was found and we immediately took Addie to the emergency room. During the time she had the accident to when we got to the ER, Addie had not cried or even complained of pain. She amazed all the doctor and nurses in the ER. The ER doctor came in and looked at her finger and immediately decided that a hand surgeon would be the best approach for her hand.

An emergency surgery was scheduled for Addie yesterday afternoon and the hand surgeon's best hope is that the tissue was still living and that his re-attachment surgery is a success. She was in surgery for about an hour and Mommy was there when she woke up from anesthesia. She maintained her bravery throughout the entire day. She truly amazed me with her pain tolerance and pretty much had a smile on her face the entire day! We even told her several times, if you need to cry...it's ok...She is doing really well, and is now sporting a very pretty pink cast to keep her finger immobilized for the next two weeks.

We are praying for healing and a successful re-attachment. And that Addie continues to feel good and make it through the two weeks with her cast! Here is a picture from her experience. And a video after she got home from her day at the hospital.

I'm happy and proud that Addie was so brave and mature throughout the entire nightmare. She's such a sweet little girl and definitely the bravest kid in Iowa. ;)
That shows that you and Chris must be doing something right! Hehe.
